Sandra presently writes her stories of love from a sweetheart-of-a-town in Colorado. With the majestic Rocky Mountains, family, and friends to inspire her she looks forward to taking you along on a journey of love, suspense, and fantasy.
Sandra was born in upstate New York. She is officially the only Yankee in the family, as the rest, including her four siblings were born in Kentucky. The family remained in New York, and this interesting blend made for an odd accent on Sandra’s part. She’s always had friends in school tell her she talked funny. And if she spends ANY time in the south a southern accent takes over. If you ever speak to her in person, don’t be surprised when a “y’all” pops out.
Sandra has always loved words. By seventh grade she should have known she would be a writer, when much to the regret of her classmates, she chose idiosyncrasies as a spelling word. If that weren’t enough to convince her all the summer vacation hours spent reading instead of running around with friends should have done the trick. One of the high points of her life was the first time she beat her mother at Scrabble!
Her first foray into the writing world, angst filled teenage poetry, filled many notebooks. It is well hidden, though lovingly kept, for posterity. The next true attempt came many years later when, after marrying and having two sons, she and her family moved to Minnesota. Now there’s a place you’ll find a lot of writers. Why? you may ask. Because, in Sandra’s opinion, it was too darned cold to do much else besides stay in and write. She decided to try her hand at writing romance, because she loved to read it.
When asked why she writes, she will tell you it is because if she doesn’t the characters running around in her head won’t let her sleep. No, she’s not crazy (though her two sons would debate that subject sometimes). The problem is, while during the day she is busy with her day job and raising three boys – her husband fully agrees with this number – the only time her characters have a chance to play is when she gets ready to sleep. While some people fall asleep the moment their head hits the pillow, when her head hits the pillow characters start working through plot problems. To solve this problem, she tries to take some time before bed to let them play and get their issues on the page. Amazingly, it has worked well for everyone involved.
Her first contest win was for a short contemporary romance titled 24K Nanny. It was the first time she’d ever entered a contest. The thrill of having others enjoy her work that much insured that she continued to write. She has since placed and won contests for Romantic Suspense and Contemporary.
Now she writes primarily Romantic Suspense. Her favorite sister, okay, her only sister said of one of Sandra’s most recent manuscripts, “I knew there was a dark side to you.” Don’t worry though she can write some nasty villains, the romance is still primary for Sandra.
Several friends have noted Sandra’s love of science fiction and fantasy. After being asked so many times why she didn’t write it, she tried her hand at a futuristic fantasy. Her first attempt has become one of her favorite manuscripts, blending both old world attitudes from another planet with technological attitudes of Earth, she brings her protagonists together despite their strong, totally understandable prejudices. So now she splits her writing time between her two favorite genres.
